WE COMMUTE SERIES

WE COMMUTE SERIES (2011)

WE COMMUTE is a flash-mob style performance delving into the psychogeography of public transport environments upon their users/commuters. This performance presents an unsuspecting audience with abstractions of our everyday journeys, where human habits, needs and interactions become extreme, weird and wonderful. Make sure you're on time to see us arrive and go!

Thou Shalt (2011)

Thou Shalt explores the complex lives of Puritan colonial women, a time when religion suppressed self expression and paranoia was rife; fears of the Quaker Movement, accusations of witchcraft, as well as the inability to confess sins within the Puritan faith. This piece fuses expressive movement, historical costume and live music to create an atmospheric and emotive performance.

"Severe self denial versus secret sensuality...in all departments it was impressively artful"

Donald Hutera (Dance Critic for The Times)

"With a monastic austerity in their humble gestures, these women become violent and paranoid, rendering repetitive tasks painful to watch. The sudden changes of tempo and contractions remind us of  Anne Theresa de Keersmaeker. Silversmith Dance Theatre creates a potent image."

Marina Ribera (Resolution! 2011, emerging Reviewer)

"Thou Shalt was one of the highlights of the evening and fitted exceptionally well into the church setting. I loved the powerful imagery captured in the choreography and the construction of the work was innovative and unusual. Silversmith's approach is both refreshing and substantial, and I look forward to seeing more creations in the future. Definitely a company to watch!."
